The road to next gen biosensors - PhotonDelta roadmap launch

2021 07 July

Global healthcare has never been under so much pressure to deliver and innovate. Providing effective patient care at affordable cost to an ever increasing and ageing population. Photonic Integrated Circuits are one of the key technological breakthroughs, able to contribute to this rapidly growing and fast changing demand.

PhotonDelta is therefore, as industry accelerator for the integrated photonics industry, organizing an event to present the ‘biosensing roadmap’.

The roadmap was created together with integrated photonics companies and institutes, as well as with other relevant stakeholders such as diagnostic companies, doctors, medtech firms and many others.

Why attend? - Get an overview of the opportunities and possibilities of Photonic Integrated Circuits in Healthcare

  • Inspiring keynote by Rogier Hopstaken, general practitioner, researcher and expert in the field.
  • Hear from various stakeholders that contributed to the roadmap during an interactive panel discussion
  • Get to meet likeminded enthusiasts and professionals during the virtual networking opportunity

The Point-of-Care A shift towards increased prevention and early diagnostics performed outside of hospitals, e.g., at the general practitioner or even at home is on the rise: Point-of-Care diagnostics.

The Point-of-Care market has been increasingly rapidly in the past decade. Even pre-Covid, the market for devices that allow early diagnostics performed outside of hospitals was sizeable and fast growing. By 2025, the PoC market is expected to reach $10.1bn (compared to $4.8bn in 2019).

This shift towards Point-of-Care diagnostics is causing a tremendous push for affordable but accurate instruments. Photonic Integrated Circuits (PICs) offer the possibility to realise a large variety of sensors which can be both accurate as well as cheap in volume (less than a Euro per piece).

The PhotonDelta Roadmap The challenge in developing these devices is in the multi-disciplinary approach that is required. A collaborative approach, particularly between diagnostic companies and platform providers is key for globally relevant innovation.

PhotonDelta, the industry accelerator for the Dutch integrated photonics industry, has created an ecosystem of companies that together form a value-chain that is capable of designing, developing and manufacturing innovative solutions based on integrated photonics.

Together with its partners, PhotonDelta created a roadmap for photonic biosensors that provides the guidance to accelerate the present activities towards successful commercial application. The roadmap was created together integrated photonics companies and institutes, as well as with other relevant stakeholders such as diagnostic companies, doctors, medtech firms and many others.

Join our launch event

The roadmap will be launched through an online event on Thursday July the 8th at 14:00 – 15:30 (CEST) and is free for everyone to attend.

You are welcome to register a +1. You can expect to hear from different experts in the field that contributed to the roadmap, each providing their view on the subject.

The event will start with an inspiring keynote presentation about Point-of-Care diagnostics by Rogier Hopstaken, general practitioner, researcher and expert in the field.

The roadmap presentation will be held by Maarten Buijs, CEO of Surfix BV, followed by an interactive panel discussion with various contributors of the roadmap.

The audience will be able to interact during the panel with the speakers through the moderator. An overview of the different panelists:

  • Carmen van Vilsteren, Chair Topsector Life Science & Health, Director Health at TU/e and Chair of e/MTIC Board.
  • Sonia Garcia Blanco, Associate Professor at the Univeristy of Twente
  • Jeroen van Nieuwenhuis, VP R&D at Siemens Healthineers
  • Rogier Hopstaken, General Practitioner & Researcher
  • Maarten Buijs, CEO of Surfix BV

The event will be concluded with a virtual networking opportunity, allowing both audience and the speakers to continue the discussion and interact through facilitated fishbowls.
