Dear Photonics21 members,
We hope that you are all fine in this challenging time.
In this summer newsletter edition we like to provide you an update on the status of the Photonics Partnership proposal for Horizon Europe.
The evaluations of the last calls of the Horizon 2020 Photonics PPP (ICT36-2020 and ICT37-2020) are ongoing due to the extension of the submission deadline granted in response to the disruption of activities caused by the Coronavirus pandemics. The evaluations of the specific call for proposals for close-to-market solutions in one of the COVID-19 areas (Medical technologies, Digital tools and Artificial Intelligence (AI) analytics to improve surveillance and care at high Technology Readiness Levels (TRL) are also ongoing. The call was extremely well received with over 200 applications.
Photonics21 goes digital - we like to update you on the first webmeetings as well as the first digital BoS meeting and invite you to participate in the upcoming Photonics21 Board of Stakeholder election 2020 and sign in as voter and nominate a candidate.
Furthermore, we invite you to participate in a survey for a new photonics market study.
Moreover, we like to share with you latest news on the Photonics PPP funded projects AMPLITUDE and MedPhab.
As always you can find some interesting upcoming events, most of them will take place virtually.
If you like to inform the European photonics community on an interesting event, we invite you to provide us the relevant information to secretariat@photonics21.org .
Best regards and stay healthy

Participate - Survey for a new photonics market study
|
Photonics21 is currently working on a new photonics market study. The work is done in cooperation with Tematys, a Paris-based team of photonics specialized consultants to get a comprehensive understanding on trends, markets and use of photonic technologies and their applications.
We would kindly ask you to participate in a survey which aims to gather key data for a comprehensive overview of photonics in Europe. Those market intelligence data and statistics will provide us with a good understanding of the state of companies in Europe and a basis to speak with "one voice" about the photonics industry. Furthermore, the results will provide a baseline for advocating in favour of photonics current and future impact towards decision-makers as well as public and private investors.

Instant bladder cancer scan could save thousands of lives
|
Thousands of lives lost to bladder cancers each year could be saved thanks to a new scanner that uses photonics to illuminate parts of the tissue that are currently impossible to visualise.
A European photonics research team is developing a new endoscope to scan for the early signs of bladder cancer.
Using multi-wavelength lasers, the scanner will provide instant, non-invasive, precise and detailed information to determine what stage and grade that a tumour has reached and provide early diagnosis.
