Horizon Europe to leverage the innovation potential of Photonics

The EU's flagship research programme Horizon Europe, can unlock a wide range of benefits, such as curing diseases, creating jobs, and driving economic growth, with a dedicated and increased budget.

Running from 2021-2030, Horizon Europe holds a wealth of opportunities for the next phase of the Photonics PPP.

Dr Heinz Seyringer, Photonics21 Executive Board Member, said: "So much has been achieved by the Photonics PPP, Horizon 2020 and the European  Commission's collaboration, but it is essential to keep this momentum going."

"This next phase of Horizon Europe has the potential to unlock so many benefits and make the Digital Transformation happen" said Dr Seyringer.

"Building on what we have already achieved in developing our Key Enabling Technologies and remaining at the forefront of future leadership in one of the fastest-growing markets in the world, Photonics technologies have become a part of everyday life, revolutionizing society with so many different new and innovative applications far beyond obvious lighting products."

"Our missions for the next Framework Programme include using Light Technologies to:

  • Live longer, feel better – Photonics in life sciences and healthcare
  • Feed the world – Photonics for safe, nutritious and affordable food
  • Keep our traffic flowing – Photonics for autonomous & connected mobility
  • Zero emission, less waste – Photonics for sustainability and a clean environment
  • Empowering Industry 4.0 – Photonics in manufacturing and production
  • A new quality of urban life – Photonics for smart homes and liveable cities
  • Building our digital society – Photonics for a secure and resilient IT infrastructure
