Different glass materials offer unique optical and physical properties that enable a wide range of photonic applications. This introductory course provides an overview of various glass systems, their intended use, and the optical fibers that can be fabricated from them. The course includes condensed knowledge including: Types and properties of glasses for optical applications. Selection of glass compositions for specific functionalities. Optical fibers made from different glasses and their applications. Examples of specialty fibers used in telecommunications, sensing, lasers, and biomedicine. This online training of Łukasiewicz - Institute of Microelectronics and Photonics, with the support of PhotonHub, is free-of-charge but requires attendees to register in advance.
