Oriol Bertran-Pardo

Oriol Bertran-Pardo has done outstanding research work in the area of optical fibre systems. During his Ph.D he visited the physics of fibre propagation and applied his knowledge to define innovative conditions which allow the deployment of optical systems that will carry 10 times more information than today’s. His Ph.D research work is entitled “Study of disruptive solutions for the next generation of high bit-rate optical communications systems” and was mainly conducted  at the Alcatel-Lucent Bell Labs in Paris. The Photonics21 Student Innovation award committee acknowledged the innovative research of a very talented postdoctoral researcher who is the author or co-author of more than 40 peer reviewed publications in journals and international conferences and has written 9 patent-applications. Oriol Bertran-Pardo has obtained his Ph.D in electronic and communications engineering by Telecom Paris Tech with high honours and currently works as a research engineer at Alcatel-Lucent Bell Labs.
