The ISTOK-SOYUZ Project is a special support action co-funded by the FP7 ICT programme of the European Commission.

The ISTOK-SOYUZ project, based on the sound outcomes and lessons learnt of ISTOK.Ru project (www.istok-ru.eu) implemented in Russia in 2006-2008, will expand ISTOK experience to the Eastern Europe & Central Asia (below: EECA) countries, identifying and promoting visibility of mutual RTD potential and collaboration opportunities.

Target countries are Russia, Ukraine, Belarus, Armenia, Kazakhstan and Central Asia

The overall objective of the ISTOK-SOYUZ project is to explore new opportunities for ICT collaboration between EU and Eastern Europe and Central Asia countries and to foster the EU ICT programme awareness activities in order to increase the number of the international collaboration projects involving partners from EECA countries.

The project coordinators help organizations to set up a project or to join existing consortia with regard to the upcoming ICT Call 6.

The transnational PIANO+ call “Photonics-based Internet Access Networks of the Future” has opened today. PIANO+ is co-funded by the participating national funding bodies and the European Commission. The competition will be open for participants from Austria, Germany, Israel, Poland and the United Kingdom. Proposals are sought for the development of photonic technology and system architectures for the scalable, future proof and energy efficient access network and its extension to the customers´ premises including the home. These shall be capable of allowing the potential of cost-effective 1 Gbit/s (and beyond) access to all subscribers. The deadline for pre-proposal submission is the 29 April 2010. Full proposals have to be submitted by the 16 June 2010.
