The next Photonics21 Work Group 6 workshop will be held on the 12 July 2012 at the following meeting venue in London: 76 Portland Place, London W1B 1NT

The meeting will be a one day event and has been scheduled from 10.00 – 16.30.

The Photonics21 Work Group 6 workshop will continue the roadmapping process which has been started at the Photonics21 Annual Meeting 2012 and will collect further input for the Photonics Multiannual Strategic Roadmap.

The meeting will be an important milestone in the photonics roadmap process as the Photonics Multiannual Strategic Roadmap will define the direction for future photonics research and innovation funding and will serve the European Commission to further elaborate on the new Framework Programme Horizon 2020.

DG Information Society and Media has extended the Call for Sponsors to a pilot action for the installation of an innovative SSL lighting solution in the Berlaymont building to the 31 May 2012.

The Call invites you to submit proposals to sponsor a pilot action for the installation of an innovative lighting solution based on Solid State Lighting (SSL) technologies (LEDs and/or OLEDs) in the Berlaymont building in Brussels, the main seat of the European Commission.The Call is to be seen as part of the European Commission's efforts to promote the wider deployment of advanced SSL and more specifically, in the context of the Green Paper "Lighting the Future".

Interested sponsors are requested to make contact in due time with the responsible EC services as listed in the Call text.

Please note that the deadline for submitting proposals for sponsorship has been extended to the 31 May 2012.

The photonics summer school "Get Ahead with Optics" is an interdisciplinary program which is targeted towards female science graduate students from Tunisia and Germany. The content and structure are designed to provide them with professional skills and help them succeed in the dynamic and rapidly devolving field of optics and photonics. The ten day summer school in optics is a partnership between the University of Carthage’s Engineering School of Communications, Tunisia and Philipps-University Marburg, Germany. The summer school will provide career coaching and international networking opportunities for like-minded and promising young professionals to lay the groundwork for a successful scientific career.
