ETOPIM is an inter-disciplinary conference where researchers from different application areas can come together to exchange ideas on common theoretical, numerical and experimental techniques and solutions. The ETOPIM conference series will continue its success of the 2006 edition in Sydney, Australia, and the 2009 edition in Crete, Greece, by providing an interdisciplinary forum for a deeper understanding of the physical, and biological interactions among nanoscale components and bridging complex materials research and applications with emphasis on emergent phenomena in thin films, interfaces, surfaces, nanostructures and heterostructures. The ETOPIM 9 conference is a new development, in response to growing interests in acoustic and electromagnetic metamaterials research among participants of the ETOPIM conference series.

The Photonics21 Work Group 4 workshop aims to further work on the work group 4 specific chapter for the Photonics Multiannual Strategic Roadmap.

The meeting will be an important milestone in the photonics roadmap process as the Photonics Multiannual Strategic Roadmap will define the direction for future photonics research and innovation funding and will serve the European Commission to further elaborate on the new Framework Programme Horizon 2020.

The 14th CIOE (CIOE 2012) will once again be held at the Shenzhen Convention and Exhibition Center, from September 6 to 9, 2012 over a total exhibition area of 100,000 sqm. It will comprise four concurrent sub-expositions, focusing on optical communications, lasers & infrared applications, precision optics, and LEDs. More than 3,000 exhibitors are expected to present the most advanced optoelectronic technologies and products at CIOE 2012. Specially arranged presentations on New Products and Technologies will provide excellent marketing opportunities for the exhibitors. In addition, on-site activities such as round-table discussions, and face to face sourcing meetings will further enhance the communication between exhibitors and trade buyers.

The Congress will provide a unique forum to share the latest results of the metamaterials research in Europe and worldwide and bring together the engineering, physics, and material science communities working in the field of artificial electromagnetic materials and their applications from radio to optical frequencies. Researchers working on acoustic and mechanical metamaterials are also welcome.

The Doctoral School following the Conference will represent a unique opportunity for students and young researchers to get exposure to the latest advancements in the field of metamaterials and to meet the leading experts in this rapidly developing field.
